According to the present
knowledge, minimally 120 described species of the family Elachistidae
can be expected to occur in central Europe (delimited in the wider
sense). Further it is indisputable that there are undescribed species
occurring in this area; their number can be hardly estimated
The territory of Slovenia
belongs to such central European areas where the high diversity of this
family can be expected. Approximately 65 species have been till now
recorded in Slovenia, the number of those really living here will be
considerably higher (e.g. from Austria it is reported more than 80
species, similarly as from northern Italy).
During the period 1997 -
2002 the authors have recorded the occurrence of 38 species in the
territory of Slovenia. They are listed together with other known species
in the table. The most interesting species are commented in greater
detail and figured.
In the end of this short
contribution the authors would like to ask all lepidopterologists,
collecting so called Microlepidoptera in the territory of Slovenia, to
pay the highest attention to this group as possible. We will appreciate
to get any information concerning this family, and, if needed, we will
willingly identify or revise a voucher material.
